Wildcat to deploy on German Navy frigate 2017

UK to Deploy Wildcat Helicopters on German Navy Frigate

The article seems to hint at the Wildcat could be a replacement for their Lynx thus be in competition with the NH-90 NFH Sea Lion.

My understanding is the Bundeswehr is purchasing the NH-90 NFH Sea Lion to replace both their Sea King AND Lynx...

cheers

Article states that aims are interoperability and defence engagement: Correct.

At the operator level it's all about making things work although it is potentially a good marketing tool and I'm sure that Leonardos chance their arm.

@chopper: The "Naval Transport Helicopter" Sea Lion won't have any ASW equipment as standard and is destined to replace the Sea Kings only. Back in the mid-2000s, the original plan had been to purchase 30 NH90s to replace both Sea Kings and Sea Lynxes, however the Navy somehow managed to avoid the dreaded NH90 - that is, until this new variant was shoved down their throats.

Long story short, the Sea Lynx replacement hasn't been decided yet. Interesting move though, especially since Sea Lynx availability has been awfully low for quite some time now.
