The Flying Chiefs

Early in the history of US Naval Aviation, one of the top Squadrons was made up of Enlisted Pilots and was considered one of the top Squadrons if not the best Squadron in the US Navy.

I ran across mention of this Unit while reading a book about one of the members of that famed squadron who during WWII became quite famous for his flying exploits having long retired from the Navy.

That must have been an interesting unit...being manned almost exclusively by Enlisted Pilots.
