Russians Getting All Cuddly Again

US says Russian jet flew 10ft from plane over Black Sea - BBC News

Makes you think of the P-3 which force landed on Hainan Island after a mid-air with a Chinese fighter.

But even if it had been wing-tip to wing-tip, it does also remind me of the F-104 that got too close to the XB-70 with fatal consequences :/

Detailed in Graham M. Simons' book, Valkyrie: The North American XB-70: The USA's Ill-fated Supersonic Heavy Bomber.

Highly recommended.

This is why I mention the XB-70 incident.

Your average Su-27 driver may understand that a high speed slashing flyby can be easily misjudged.

But how many have the effect of wing vortices in mind? And are knowledgable of those of a P-8?

Maybe some bright spark on here please could avail us of UK interception parameters? Must be quite a wake comes off a Tu-95!

Cheers

Cooch

Didn't a Norwegian Orion (I think that it was an Orion) get a bit kissy with a Russian over the Baltic a little while ago?

Yep, there was a collision between a Norwegian Orion and a Su-27 back in the late 1980s. Su-27 vs. P3B Orion over Barents Sea 1987. ? intercepting and collision ? ? Su-27 Flanker ?
