Any WSOs lurking on here?

Guys,

Any WSOs active on the boards that wouldn't mind me PMing them a few questions? Ex-RAF, application is back in for RPAS, WSOp and WSO but the information out there on WSO training is next to non-existent. I understand legacy training may not be relevant to the current role but any understanding is helpful. A friend I served with is currently in term 2 of Cranwell and even a WSO on his course has no idea how his trade training is going to be conducted.

Any help appreciated chaps.

Thanks

I don't think the RAF and Ascent know either - they're recruiting for a specialist to design the course!!!

Looks like the future WSO on my friends intake is going to be holding for a while then!

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could

Unless, in time honoured fashion, he writes his own lessons

WSO training was closed down in January '11.

There is some bespoke training being done for newly commisioned guys from the WSOp ranks - but that in itself is a policy change too, since re-opening that commision opportunity was intended to supply experienced JO's for staff roles rather than flying.

MFTS have not previously been tasked with WSO training, since only the E3 and GR4 runouts were perceived as customers after the Jan 11 end of WSO flying training.

I have to say their advert looks like they are trying to recruit their own existing chief instructor from Culdrose

Whatever's on the syllabus, I'm guessing they won't be learning manual airplots, astro or how to do a running fix on an NDB

Surely they would have to teach the WSOs how to navigate to the galley first!!

Not so easy these days,

Without a food hygiene certificate one wouldn't be allowed in the galley, let alone prepare food for the rest of the crew - like anyone ever saw a WSO/AEO do that anyway!
