60 SQN 100TH DISPLAY

Interesting debate on the RAF Shawbury FB page regarding the flying display to celebrate 60 being 100 years old. SFSO has declared that the local police will close the roads and they will cancel the flying if the public try to watch the display. Seems a good way to destroy local relations with the public, there has even been a retired Group Captain having his say. Believe the local press are picking up on it. Would be interested to see what the users think.

Just another example of the hysterical knee jerk reaction, caused by the CAA civil restrictions imposed after the Shoreham accident.
Everyone trying to cover their backs in case of an incident and the possible prosecution scenario.

I wonder how many noise complaints will occur in the coming weeks. ....and after the Mess Balls. ... and motorcycle track day ...and weekly test of the Alert Alarms.

A PR suicide is in progress and goodwill is so easily lost.

"We are going to make a lot of noise and enjoy a display by the Red Arrows, and you are not welcme to watch it despite living across the road" - Well we will hear it whether we like it or not - and complain afterwards.

I would ask the easy question, just how are they intending to prevent the public watching the flying display, give them all blindfolds.

And surely a flying display at Shawbury comes under MAA rules not CAA rules

But I agree, a PR disaster in the offing

Station Commander made personal statement on FB and BBC Shropshire running a story today. Shame as it should be good event best to all at 60 Sqn, looking forward to hearing the old Pembroke again.

A pity that there won't be a flying Javelin though....

One of the Hawk instructors on 63 Sqn at Chiv had flown the Javelin with 60 Sqn before later flying the F-4. So a well-practised wind-up was for (pre-briefed) new students to ask him in apparent innocence how it was that a Pembroke driver managed to convert to the Phantom....

Well the flying display went ahead in the afternoon despite the weather. The Reds had to do their flat display and the Typhoon followed with a very noisy and spirited performance. A Spitfire flew over the Mess before we went in for Dinner and everyone present for either 60's Centenary, 155 Cse graduation or the Transfer of 202 Sqn to DHFS had an excellent day and evening. Well done Shawbury, DHFS and 60 for such a splendid do.

Sounds good. I held on 202 and graduated on 41 Cse a few years ago (!). Surprised to hear of any fuss over the local population banned from gathering on the roads to watch the display...

...surely the local farmers would use a collie to round them up?

Is it just me or was the Typhoon's display slightly more noisy than had been anticipated?
