actually there was a 'WRAF gauge' at Biggin Hill
Quite a reversal from the approach taken by a one-time SATCO at Waddo, who would visit Spitalgate to present to the 'no trade' intake on the benefits of a career in ATC and then select from the photographs when they applied to muster as AATC! Top marks for style, naughty corner for equality and diversity.

The 1987 Gorbachev visit to Brize involved 4 x Illy 62 jets from Mother Russia and a few of us were tasked to help out...
'My' jet held the KGB security team, who were whisked off to Gateway House to sample the traditional high quality cuisine
whilst we looked after the crew's needs.
After boarding, rather a stern looking Rosa Klebb lookalike asked the 3 of us if we'd like some coffee. We replied that we'd be delighted and thanked her profusely, whereupon she took on the manner of a prep school matron and disappeared into the gallery beaming happily.
A few moments later, a giggling bevy of stunningly pretty Russian girls appeared with coffee and choccies - which were superb. So I can well imagine the attraction, flash8!
