LB, my new Stone KD in 1973 did not work in 1983. It had shrunk horribly since I married and Mrs PN did the necessary.

At Seletar we had a Chinese tailor visit the mess once or twice a week and so there was no need to go down Jalan Kayu (the Seletar equivalent of Changi/Tengah villages) to get your KD run up. I did however have a nice white DJ made in Burtons tailors in Jalan Kayu, complete with his label on the inside pocket. I always wished he had chosen a more prestigious name to plagiarise so I could have showed it off a bit more at summer balls.

As for shrinkage, one finds that EVERYTHING has shrunk.

Especially in winter.
