Ex para arrested over Bloody Sunday massacre
It's just another facet of the British love of self-flagellation, we are always in the wrong and can never stop punishing ourselves for it. Re-opening this wound will only serve to remind the Irish of the persecution they feel they suffered at the hands of the British, it will not help the healing process it will merely serve to remind a new generation of Irish youth that their unarmed relatives were "murdered" by occupying British forces.
It is typical of our national desire to apologize our way to popularity even if it means ignoring the scores of young squaddies who were blown to bits or shot patrolling the streets of "Norn Iron" while trying to keep the two religious factions from tearing each others throats out.
I know people who served there, and I have nothing but respect for the professionalism and restraint they showed in the face of often extreme provocation and violence. It sickens me to see good, decent men pursued and prosecuted in exactly the same way that we seek out old pedophiles and nazi war criminals.
