The twitter post that story is based on is here

Given that nearly 22 hours have passed since it was posted and neither side has supplied any further detail I think we can assume no such shoot down has actually happened.

If this is true, then it serves them right.
However, I hope the crew managed to eject and land safely.

Bloke with mobile phone hears bang (lots of bangs going on around there these days). Bloke with phone sees jets in the sky (plenty of jets in the sky there at the moment). Bloke with phone decides Turkey has shot down a Russian jet. Calls Daily Mail. Suddenly it's a fact. Brilliant!!!

You'd be amazed how much official traction this rumour got...along with a lot of allied colleagues, we managed to waste several hours confirming that this was just a rumour. Eventually a senior official in the Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement - just after the awful bombings in Ankara.

I guess modus operandi of turkish airforce towards russian incursions would be intercept -> warn russian pilot to leave turkish airspace -> fire warning shots if he doesn't obey

relations between Russia and Turkey are fairly good for planes to be shot down because of minor incursion

A story no doubt formulated in the spin factory of bullsh1t our so called democratic governments are becoming renowned for. It's a bit like penis envy by CaMoron and 0bama where the progress of the Russian military against the IS and other terrorist scum are automatically criticised. As and until there's any proof either way, I will consider the report as stupid propaganda.

70% of Russian air strikes have been on targets outside of IS controlled areas. Still so progressive?

Well it's just a case of us bombing the folk we don't like and them bombing the folk that they don't like. There will be some overlap where the not liking is mutual and then we'll all be great pals for a bit.

If it DID happen, though - would either the Russians or the Turks (or NATO) want to admit it?

it depends, if it happened over syrian territory Turkey would like to hide it the same way Russia did with MH17, but if it happened in turkish FIR then they wouldn't have to hide anything
