Fast Jet Operating Costs
Not sure if folks here have seen this study by Jane's: http://www.ftm.nl/wp-content/uploads...%202012(1).pdf
Good info, but looking for jets not in here. Hawker Hunter and Alpha Jet.
I've seen a couple Hawker Hunters for sale but I don't know what to expect operating costs to be.
Does anyone have information estimating operating costs would be per flying hour?
Thanks Much!

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
For the Alfajet it would not be hugely different from the Hawk. For a Hunter some costs may be higher - spares - and others lower - servicing by enthusiasts.
For UK Military aircraft there is actually a price list. As an example a Nimrod mk 1 back in the 70s was about £2,900 ph to a Government agency, say MAAF, and about £6,900 ph to a non-Governmental agency, eg a film unit.
If the private hire was perceived to have a significant PR benefit the cost might have been reduced or waived. You only have to ask the MOD.

Thanks, Pontius.
I'm weighing costs of renting vs. buying. A couple hundred USD to buy a Hunter, and a bit more than that for the Alpha. I have the numbers to calculate fuel costs, but the X factor is maintenance costs.
Where I'm looking for advice from folks here is any leads on operating costs for these jets. Spares, engine maintenance, etc.
Thanks

It probably won't help you, but.........
A Rolls Royce saleman said 'If you can afford a Rolls Royce you can afford the fuel'
Buy it, fly it.
However, I'm not footing the bill, so what do i know.............

Randy,
You could try asking some of the civilian operators of the aircraft in question:
Alpha Jet:
Warbird Depot - Jets > Mark Peterson's Dornier GMBH Alpha-Jet
Our Aircraft | Air USA
Top Aces - Dornier Alpha Jet
Hunter:
ATAC - Aircraft: MK-58 Hawker Hunter
Welkom
Hawker Hunter Aviation | » About Us

I would ask a company that maintains them etc for an idea of the costs, one based at RAF St Athans is as an example, see
http://www.horizonaircraft.co.uk/
Horizon Aircraft Services Ltd (HAS) currently support the operation of many airworthy aircraft on behalf of their owners, which includes Hawker Hunters, Percival Jet Provost / Strikemaster, Yak-50 / 52 and Aero L-29’s.
We are also able to undertake all aspects of servicing and support on all of these types, as well as many others.

It's a well presented study; while it's clearly written to plug the Gripen over allegedly more expensive rivals, senior officers are going to have to get used to the terminology and indeed the concept of explaining costs and value for money.
