Nice choice of escort. Those guys will have something to remember. Sad to see the old girl go.

Thanks for the pictures!

I agree, but for me another spooky thing is what looks like a pipe-smoking uniformed figure created by the cloud in the bottom right hand corner of that picture...... Not BEagle is it?

I have never smoked - that's for idiots. Food, drink and certain parts of the female anatomy are the only things which I've enjoyed in my mouth....

The first time I encountered an F-15 was in my Vulcan days during a trip to Germany. If an F-4 or Lightning was attempting a stern shot (pre-'9L in the F-4's case), we'd let him come on in, then go to full power and about 75° AoB up at around FL400+, which would normally guarantee we'd out turn him and he'd be blown out to Foxtrot-Oscar for another attempt.... Same thing against an RCAF F-101 over at Chatham and to make the point I then reversed and sat in his 6!

Tried it against an F-15A and he tracked us before sliding past on the inside, looking backwards out of his canopy. We knew That Was It!

I don't admire Uncle Spam for much - but the F-15 is without doubt the best fighter ever!

I fondly watched Vulcans flying while stationed at Offutt AFB in the early 1980's while in the service of Uncle Spam - awesome sight and sound. Beautiful, nothing like it. Glad you were on our side.

I refer the Hon Gent to the picture posted elsewhere here of Leonard Cheshire with a cigarette, and of course Lord Tedder and Douglas Bader with their pipes ... and many, many more non-idiots

But we digress ... was this actually the LAST flight? Or just the last at LAK?

When I were at Eastern Radar in the 70s ... we regularly used to get asked by USAF bases in E Anglia if there was a Vulcan around to do a practice approach

Just last over LAK.

Currently date of last public display is 26th Sept at Church Fenton.

Whether this will be it's last ever flight or more likely I would think they will do a invite only/supporters club type thing sometime soon after that with a final landing at Robin Hood.

Sensible fellow, and I always found another "outlet" for my duty free tobacco ration. However, on a point of order, Mr BEagle, "mouth" or "youth"?

GeeRam.... I think you mean Finningley. Robin Hood/Doncaster/Sheffield International is the rather sad marketing idea of some red braces wearing coke sniffing creative hired by a government sponsored gravy train riding local investment funding junket jockey. Why do we supinely accept all this marketing bollocks.

Nice pictures Mr BEagle.

Bernoulli,
I love the "...red braces..." etc description in your post above.
With your permission, I'll use that in a letter I've to write tomorrow.

For those of you seeking a reason to get out of the house

The last few displays are listed here [but will be added to]

Displays / Tours - Vulcan To The Sky

And you can even subscribe to the route which is shared via Google Maps

Most trips at weekends appears to be about 3 - 3.5 hrs

Last year boys and girls so get your brownies out.

If we're talking of more red-brace wearing utter tripe - since when did Church Fenton become LEEDS EAST AIRPORT

Agreed that's cock (& bull).

But back to the OP: the Staish at Lakenheath seems to have made rather a big deal of this. In a piece in the Eastern Daily Press last week he came across as a bit of a knob. Might be something to do with this being his first tour in Europe.

Have to admit it does not exactly roll off the tongue but would rather have Leeds East Airport than 'Perssimmon Meadows' or 'Annington Acres' or Fenton Young Offenders! or Leeds East Solar Park, or ......you get the point by now I think.

Stanwell, sorry for the late reply....just back from Dalaman. Feel free to scribble away. I hope you're tweaking the nose of some awful bureaucrat or developer type chappie.
