Typhoons v Diamond DA42 Twin Star

My curiosity has been aroused by 2 Typhoons apparently exercising with a Diamond DA 42 Twin Star late every afternoon this week over Nipva Towers. All 3 aircraft are flying a variety of lazy orbits at a variety of heights without seeming to make any form of direct engagement. As an ex-Air Defender I am intrigued, nay mystified, by these exercises. Can anyone shed any light or express any theories?

Maybe it's a new aggressor / red air PFI, to provide non-synthetic opposition training for when the T1 goes out of service...

As per KPax, after the bloodied nose with the SU-30, we need to build the confidence up again...

Since the F-35 isn't ready yet, the DA42 is the closest as flight characteristics?
