AAR documentary 'Speed dating in the sky'

A nice documentary from the German TV channel N24:

Technik: Luftbetankung - Speed Date am Himmel - N24.de

(Link available until the end of April 2015).

Thanks for the link Beagle - the probe looked very well lit on the night sequences.
I suppose the chaps at Cobham/FR managed to replace that 1950's Halford's bike dynamo thingy with something that actually worked !
(Is it Cobham or somebody else now making the kit ?)

The probe lighting is as fitted by the receiver designer. However, the drogue is lit by an annular turbogenerator powering LEDS embedded in the basket. It works very well indeed and is far brighter than the old radioactive beta lights ever were.

Voyager crews might wish to note that the Luftwaffe uses the 3rd crew member efficiently - and that the A310MRTT has a Mission System which actually works!

Good to see how much 'head out' time the pilots have - leaving the Air Refuelling Operator to manage the system effectively. Rather better than fannying about with some electric tea tray themselves and using the ARO/MSO as nothing more than a food-powered pump attendant....
