Four submarines...
Two cheers, if only because this is the first mention of anything to do with defence policy by any party amidst the election build-up

Are you sure?
I seem to remember trident, it's location or replacement being talked about every day for some time.
UKIP have also mentioned increasing the size of the army.

And the funding for this mega-project will come from ...... <insert answer here>
MPN11,
the funding will be kickstarted by cancelling the wasteful corrupt foreign aid budget.

And if UKIP increase the size of the Army what will they do all day if we don't get involved in expeditionary warfare? And will the RAF and RN increase proportionally in size as well?
I'm all for a Trident replacement, but if we can't protect the boats from being attacked by other boats because we have done away with our capacity to attack those boats from above the sea, what's the point?

2. A good question
I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
Now do we plan a new base for the new submarines?
Would make some sense, new boats need new infrastructure. Moving south would cut the transport bill moving the warheads from the factory.

If Scotland gets independence, Paddy Ashdown will eat my hat.
In September 55% of Scots voted NO (after an unimpressive and unimaginative NO campaign). If there was Proportional Representation then SNP would have won far fewer seats.
Here is a prediction
1. Four boats will be planned
2. Snp kick up a fuss so they call me dave will have to look at moving boats to Milford haven to bolster support in Wales
3. This will require an inquiry and so will be a long drawn out affair
4. The delay will be blamed on socialists and so those in the barrow will be riled up
5. The boats will be rolled out as an issue for the next election
But upside if the boats are delayed we might get the MPA
So T.F. Bundy. .... Total f&£)ed but not dead yet....

Reference proportional representation. The SNP got 50% of the vote share in the General Election from a 71% turn out. So no clear win either way!
However, with the Trident replacement question, the Greens got a further 1.3% of the vote, so if the question went to Scotland on Trident, on those figures, then Trident would not be welcome by 51.3% of the voters.

Reference jobs:
"During a visit to Faslane on 29 October 2012 Defence Secretary Philip Hammond claimed that: “The Faslane complex is the largest employment site in Scotland with over 6500 jobs underpinning the local economy”. A further 1500 jobs would be created at Faslane when the Astute and Trafalgar class fleet submarines moved to the base, he said, with even more jobs generated in the local economy as a result of 'multiplier' effects.
About 3,500 of the jobs at the Clyde base are uniformed Royal Navy personnel, 1,700 are contractors and 1,600 are other civilian employees, most of whom work principally on other aspects of the Navy's submarine programme, rather than Trident."
I'm sure that Milford Haven or Devonport would like the business!

Unless, of course there's something we don't know about modern anti-submarine warfare.
