RAF Leuchars The End.
The end has come. Tomorrow will be the last day of RAF Leuchars, the Army are ready to move in. A sad day for one of the Airforces finest Fighter Stations. Will be raising a wee dram to all who served there, in particular those who didn't come back.

Did a number of many happy years on the F3's and left behind a lovely house in St A's........it's going to be a VERY different place when the Army arrive..good luck to those left there...

Courtney, as far as I am aware it's a 24 hr but on call Div for Lossie. The UAS will continue to operate but might move to CXI site, I'm presuming a limited VAS might operate from the south site, there were a couple of Tincans the other day. I'm sure if you call ATC they will give you the actual details.

I hope they have a handover ceremony of the keys....
Mind you they will look scruffy on all those key rings, far better to just remove them all and hand over as box of loose keys, that should give the Pongo's a version of the Easter Egg hunt as they tour the station trying to match keys to locks.

Maybe Putin will re-open it one day.

Perhaps if the 'yes' campaign had won the Scottish Government could have granted the Russians landing rights for their Bears. Allow the crews to stretch their legs, have a pee, play a quick round, etc.

A very good friend of mine was the WO who lowered the RAF Ensign at Leuchars for the very last time, his daughter posted a video of the event on FB and it was quite a touching occasion. Speaking with him last night, he regarded lowering the Ensign as a great honour and one he will remember for the rest of his life, he also said it was also a sad occasion closing 104 years of RAF history, but the RAF will have a small enclave on the airfield from where he will finish out his RAF career.
