I never realised Portugal had a Baltic coast...
Seriously, though my knowledge of the procedures are sketchy, I thought that there was a defined set of international rules for interceptors in how they approach, identify etc 'suspect' aircraft which took several minutes. The Su-27 just seemed to pop up, show off its missiles, and tootle off again. Can any of the air defence guys offer an expert opinion?

And from Jorge himself ;
"It was during the detachment of Squadron 601 Wolves from Portuguese Air Force carried out in Lithuania during one of his missions, the P-3 Orion was intercepted by a fighter of the Russian Air Force Sukhoi 27 Flanker."
Edit on the 25th , strange but this link has gone down now too !
