Sqn Ldr (Retd) John Ritchie RIP

Squadron Leader John Ritchie (FJJP) sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer. He passed away yesterday afternoon with his wife Lesley and sons Alex and Philip at his side.

He had a long and distinguished career in the RAF flying Vulcans, Canberras and Nimrods all over the world. He will be sorely missed by his family and all those who knew him.

Rest easy dad; heaven, like earth, will be a better place for your being there.

Stand down now dad, your duty's done. You'll be sorely missed by those of us that looked up to you; a fine role model.

Sad news, I had the pleasure of flying with John back in my Vulcan days, a very professional aviator and a thoroughly nice chap. Sincere condolences to you and your family.

Very sad news indeed. A man whose love of the Service was unquestionable and a star of the 617 Sqn 1980 Double Top recce team. RIP, Sid.

Sorry to hear of John's passing.

I didn't really know him particularly well as he was on the 617th Bombardment Mob when I was on 35 at Sunny Scampton. But he was one of the more enthusiastic and capable Vulcan captains of those days, to be sure.

How sad.

JR was a Flt Cdr on 360 back in the mid 80s. A thoroughly decent man.

Condolences to the family.

So very very saddened to hear this. I worked for JR when he was the Boss of Canberra tasking Sqn at Wyton and it was during a very dark time in my service and private life. John was the only person who stood by me, believed me and was ultimately proved right to do so. At a time when many so-called friends deserted me, John was the one who stood by me 100%. Something I will be forever indebted to him for. Thank you Sir, you proved to me what real true friendship was all about. RIP

Many "interesting" times with JR on the Mighty R1, and some enjoyable times in the Crown and Anchor/Abbey during our ISK simulator weeks. Condolences to his family.

John & the Family were neighbours at Cranwell, on or our retriever pups found a happy home there, and when an R1 appeared here I was please to see him as one of the Crew. Sad news indeed and my condolences to the rest of the family.
