The American Military command recently began deploying attack helicopters for missions against the ISIS.
First I've heard of this?

This is good news, if the RoE permits the Apache Crews to lay a little lumber.

Brian, I suspect that the political imperative includes a small footprint on the ground. Deploying A-10's probably won't meet that mission constraint.
While I like the idea, I don't think that's going to be how it looks.

Yep, the HIND was brought down by an ISIL operator with a FN6 MANPAD. Seems there's a roaring trade in them if you believe some of the stuff appearing in social media with one line that I saw describing how an Iraqi army officer had SA-16 for sale to the highest bidder. And people wonder why I'm so sceptical about claims that there are good or bad guys in this particular shooting match.

Looks like it's a return to the bad old days for rotary crews in Iraq.
