some random thoughts - very impressive airshow guys - I think it was about the right size and length. If it had been much larger then it would have got a little tedious - oh goody another squadron of XYZ. I also think that if there had been loads of planes up, the traitors over in the treasury would no doubt have thought that if the RAF can spare loads of planes + have enough up to do all their deployments - well they obviously have too many planes so we can cut them again
ON the whole though it was well done, still can't believe Canberra is thundering on though...

Ref the Canberras, best flying camera in the world I reckon. The oldest of the PR.9s still flying is XH169, accepted into service on 4 August 1960. That's only eight years after the Queen's coronation - now remind me, how long has the EuroTyphie been in gestation?

They built well in those days including the Nimrod [OK, the Comet], 50 this year as well [Comet, of course]! All a testement to the previous UK aircraft industry, the guys that flew and are flying them and the unseen thousands of guys who kept and are still keeping them flying.

Don't forget Specaircrews finest VC10. Celebrating its 40th this year as well I believe. I though the flypast excellent although the BBC camera work was utterly appalling. Nice close up of the Nimmies nose but you couldn't see the "Fighter-bombers" in close formation with it!!!!!

Hope Concorde is still around in 10 years, a flypast of 4 in Diamond formation would be something else!!

I was in the throngs in The Mall/St James's Park.

Buddha was so quiet, most people around me didn't seem to notice him until he was in the overhead (there was a lot of noise on the ground aswell!).

Huge cheer when Conc and The Arrows came into view - stirring stuff!

You cant be that far away from me then, although the Canberras had left the formation by the time they passed over me in Abingdon.

Did the Canberras have any ilm in? Pictures would be fairly spectackleur methinks.

I was right in the middle of Mall. Swallowed hard a few times as they started to roll in with 633 Sqdn. playing.

Then, after a few minutes, just as everyone started to point out the Eurofighter, that distinctive line appeared over Admiralty Arch. Moments later, smoke ON! Crowd cheer!

What the cameras missed as they tracked the Concorde climbout was the tail man slot in to lead the V (Andy Offer?), 9 Hawks wide and breaking away and turning as one in a 30 degree right hander after the palace.

Great stuff.

See http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/jubfly.html and check out the second pic down in the second column, says it all really. Well done to everyone, except the BBC director responsible for the 'coverage'

Very good

Very good web page that, its not often the MOD "share" such pictures or maps or information with the public like that. Although its not often the MOD do that sort of thing I guess.

BBC triumph No2

Managed to cut to the Tiller Girls as William Speakman VC passed in front of the Queen, Dimblebore didn't know what was up, lady from WRVS? blurts out that the Queen would stand, he kept talking over her.

And the camera moved on and we heard about Betty Boothroyd instead.

Thumbs up ****CONGRATULATIONS****

Congratulations to all those involved in the planning, support and execution of the flypast. It was a remarkable sight. The orchestra punched out a magnificent arrangement of "633 Sqn", which tied the whole spectacle together (shame they stopped playing before the flypast ended!).

Anyone who wasn't moved by the whole thing must have a swinging brick in their chest!

Top Fly Past..well done..watched it live on Sky from far away...the music made the hairs on my neck stand on end! It was just the right length, and the sight of Concorde powering off was truly a sight to behold....just like Summer 2000 at Aldergrove when one paid a visit and did the most wonderfull, noisy and beautifully light-blue afterburner departure!

The whole thing looked great. But! If your are going to have an airliner taking part, why no Navy? Perhaps the Mighty Muncher had a Looker in its crew? Also, on the subject of the airliner. Surely soaring up out of formation like that signifies mourning, as in a "Missing Man" formation. Please could some one correct a Simlple Submariner? This time I want to be wrong!

Conc soared out of formation AFTER she had flown over the palace (so HMQ missed it which is a pity as it was a beautiful sight). She had to get away from RAFAT as they had to do a right turn to Northolt whereas she was goint to the LHR overhead.

As she has bags of power I guess it was easier to step on it than turn with the Reds to Northolt and then get into the Heathrow pattern.

I'm sure I am not correct to the letter but I hope you get the gist.

I will ignore your beatings about the lack of fisheads in the formation as I dont want to spoil the memories of a wonderful day. (Do you get your turn at Portsmouth in a few weeks anyway??)

Thanks, as I said before, Glad to be wrong. Yes it did look good. Perhaps next time (Diamond Jubilee) there might be a few more airliners, though the bean counters would never allow it!

Unhappy

As I am for one, overseas and missed the whole 4 day hol and two, was down-route out of sight of any Brit-type TV, anyone have any good sites for pics or vid of the flypast? Saw some of the previous days celebrations; makes you proud to be a Brit.

Did anyone else notice the Royal Tart Taster, Ms Jennifrightfully Bond continually refer to the flypast at '15000 ft' - why don't these people know when to shut up.

Can anyone tell me why Concorde was not on the Mall centreline - was it a case that visual cues were not possible with the long nose - the old Vulcan low level problem? It seemed about 100yds off the North.

Reheat On

Perhaps the Concorde was avoiding turbulence from the elements ahead?
