Typhoon "Tiger"

A very nice Luftwaffe Typhoon for this year's Tiger Meet:

It all goes to show what can be done, with a little imagination and flair! Makes the RAF's feeble attempts at 'special' colour schemes on their Typhoons look very dull in comparison...

Isn't one of the Merlin squadrons a Tiger sqn due to its Indian heritage?

78 Sqn has a 'rampant tiger' on it's crest and was a member of the NTA in the past. However, seeing as the Sqn disbands in 3 months time it's now irrelevant!!

I think 814 NAS might be the "Merlin" squadron referred to...

NATO Tiger Association

The irony is that the origin of the NATO Tiger Association is reputed to be from an informal get together between 74 Sqn RAF (Lightning F1) in 1960 (state of the art interceptor !) and 79 TFS USAFE (F-100D): http://natotigers.org/tigerassociation/History.php

Now the UK is represented by a couple of helicopter squadrons. Here is the current membership: http://www.natotigers.org/tigerunits/index.php

Well, not an unexpected response here. To go back to the OP's post. Beautiful picture. Thank you.

Note that this is the first Typhoon special color scheme to be painted rather than being wrapped. Apparently, they have a new technique to remove paint from composite airframes without structurally damaging them.
