Well, I'm only a convict type Aussie, but I'm a bit annoyed that the BBC promo uses the spelling 'airplane'!

Humph, bah humbug and all that stuff!

Next they'll be landing on solid tires, and put in the hangar at nite.

If this is like the rest of the series it is on iPlayer only and 8 minutes long. Details on the BBC website are a bit sketchy.

The best film I've seen of WW1 aerial footage was from a Hollywood film:

Wings (1927) - IMDb

Apparently the actors were taught to fly and did most of the flying.

Although it's in black and white, when planes are going down pretty realistic flame in colour has been added.

I borrowed it from Love Film but also Cinema Paradiso has it.

The story is not bad either and it features a young Gary Cooper and Clara Bow.
