Indian AF C-130 J Super Hercules Crash
To be fair SS, the IAF's loss rate speaks for itself - over 1,000 aircraft lost to preventable accidents since 1970, types dubbed 'flying coffins', the Chief of the Air Force having to fly the back-seat of an Su-30MKI to 'prove' its safety to his pilots, IAF pilots sueing the military for endangering their lives...
No one wants to preempt the findings of a service inquiry, but I know where the smart money is on where the blame for this latest incident lies...

A large % of these in the past 30 years have been the Mig 21 series which were dubbed the flying coffins.
in the same period not sure any (1 AN 32??) cargo aircraft have crashed due to non combat action

As per the above link 1024 aircraft and Rotary wing aircraft lost both in and out of combat since 1947 (sheet needs updating and would probably be up by another 10 at best)

Yes, mainly MiG-21s, but many other types as well. We'll see what the investigation turns up I guess, but I wouldn't take a ride on an IAF aircraft of any description if it were offered (and it has been).

Whilst it probably had nothing to do with the accident, I couldn't help noticing that the crew comprised 2 x wg cdr, 2 x sqn ldr and a WO. Is that normal for the IAF?

No doubt the BOI will establish the facts, meanwhile we have lost some comrades, flying an aircraft, common to many air forces, which must cause concern. RIP "alberteers", lets hope the cause is established quickly.

IIRC there was once a VSO who when asked if they should be allowed to continue flying on a regular basis replied that, "It's bloody good fun....and the survivors are worth having".

From what I learned on a detachment to India, they tend to operate at one rank above the level we do, e.g sqn boss being a Gp Capt and so on (at least in the FJ world). It could well be the case that the J was being flown by 2 Sqn Ldrs, 2 Flt Lts and a FS in all but rank.

NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force's C-130J aircraft that crashed on Friday killing all five on board may have banged into a hillock, lost control, and hurtled into the Chambal area, according to preliminary dependable information available.
A senior IAF officer told TOI that the information, provided mostly by the crew of the other C-130J, which was the lead aircraft in the formation, show that ill-fated aircraft missed the hillock in an otherwise plain landscape. The first aircraft pulled up as it reached the hillock, but the second aircraft went and banged on it. The input is also corroborated by the angle in which it crashed into the ground, he said.

Any data out there that shows these "fake" parts have caused an Fatal Accident in the CJ 130J?
Day of accident the visibility in that area was not an issue.

And I was laughed at for tongue in cheek suggesting that LM would be blamed .
Well they have been with their "Chinese " parts according to the Indian press.
I've spent quite some time training Indian and other Asian military folk . Not on their culture to accept blame .
The Indian defence from Air Force to Navy had big issues including the head of the Navy going over fires on dud subs etc
