Sqn Ldr Mike Dane RIP

It is with deep regret that I have to report the passing yesterday of Mike Dane. He had a very long association with Search and Rescue beginning as a Sgt Air Signaller Winchman at Manston in 1961 and it was early in his first year there when Mike had a very narrow escape after his Whirlwind ditched off Ramsgate. This qualified him to join the Goldfish Club where he was the Newsletter Editor and PRO.He will be sorely missed by the 22 Squadron Association where he had been the Treasurer for many years and a glass or three will be raised to him at the reunion in May. Condolences to the family.
RIP Mike

Very sad news; always a pleasure to fly with and truly one of life's Gentlemen. RIP Mike

To repeat my post on Rotorheads ...
Another good guy gone. Lots of time with Mick at Valley and elsewhere. Condolences to Julie and family. The tale of his 'Goldfish Club' qualification was highly amusing as was his account of teaching an initial batch of non-UK SAR crews at Valley. He returned from a demo 'struggling survivor' sortie severely 'bloodied but unbowed'!! Said stude was awarded 0 for competence and 100 for effort! Fare thee well Mick, they were good times.

CJ, Julie passed in 2008

I attended Mike's Dining Out as he was treated by 84 Sqn because his last job was in Ops at Epi.

apologies - I hadn't realised. Out of touch since '74 (on 84).
Mick and Julie met us at Limassol docks and got us established when we went out there in '71 - we'd been instructors at Valley together. He was also 'on the switch' when I had a little run-in with 'Cav the Nav'. Cav was determined to make me squeal 'uncle' in Holyhead harbour and Mick's switchwork kept me superbly supported. He made work on the wire 'easy-peasy'. Last time I saw him was when he came out to Akrotiri in a Victor Tanker after his 'retread'.
He was also primarily responsible for getting QHCI recognition for us in the late 60's. RIP indeed.

I have just heard from a chum who was on 214 Victor Tankers at the same time as Mike and myself that the funeral will take place on Friday 21st Mar at 1530 at All Saints Church, Easton–on-the-Hill, near Stamford.

I don't have any further details but it should be possible to contact the church if more info is required.
