French AAR

Watching them over the med a while back I wondered if they had a boom operator? Or is it the same as for the RAF and all down to the pilot? Just curious.

The boom tankers all need an operator. The simple answer, I hope, is: drogue = self service, boom = "fill 'er up, Sir?"

The French AF use both the probe and drogue and, the flyable boom and receptacle systems on their C-135FRs, they're all fitted with the flyable boom but, have probe and drogue adaptors as well.
