Herod,
Only if your GE could get out and "fix it", before the Co came down the crew steps !!
Ancientaviator62,
Looks like none of our fellow posters can decide if the K is an E Variant, or an H variant. As stated in post #11, 'The Mighty Hercules' states that the UK C130K is a variant of the H. I've seen loads of H's in my time, nothing like a K, but always felt familiar when visiting an E. Never mind, I suppose we can decide for ourselves. With the exception of Stopstart, who seems to be in agreement with our understanding. Surely to create a K from an H would require the removal of loads of hardware, and structural degradation. I can't believe that even the MOD were that stupid ?

I'd suggest that the K is neither an E nor an H but an almost interim variant somewhere between the two (albeit closer to the latter).
It had the T56-15 engines as well as the improved fatigue life inboard wing section (and shoulder joint) of the H in addition to its redesigned outer wing section.
As has been said, it lacked the APU of the H and retained the GTC/ATM of the E.
Strangely enough, Lockheed documentation referring to the stretched C3 variant refer to it as C-130H-30.
I guess you 'pays yer money and takes yer choice'!

The E entered service in 1962, the H in 1964, so it was available.
Hence my assertion that the K was an almost interim model albeit closer to the H.

I always thought the loady got the beer in? Or handed the crew's rates to the lowly SVC to hold the kitty?
Does anyone have an official last flight date of the K yet? I had heard rumours of this Thursday (24th) to conincide with a "families" day
