Ercan Radar

Here's what it used to be like at 'Chaos Corner' - has anything changed of late?

'Ercan Radar' is an illegal ATC station in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus which is not recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization. ICAO only recognises the legal government of Cyprus and has issued instructions to aircraft operators to obey only Nicosia ACC when in the Cyprus FIR.

Ankara ACC, in its effort to change the status quo, instructs aircraft on a southbound course towards Cyprus, on passing ANTALIA or MUT (significant points well before Turkish FIR boundaries) to contact Ercan. This should be acknowledged but ignored; instead contact should be established with Nicosia at least 10 min before the FIR boundary, the flight should then proceed under the control of Nicosia on passing the Cyprus FIR boundary.

The airport there doesn't exist according to ICAO, either.

So, it looks like there are no airports in Northern Cyprus at all, AGS.

And, of course, the now virtually defunct Nicosia Airport used to be RAF Nicosia, Wrecker.

It's sort of the same, we talk to Ercan but avoid reclearances of any sort and at the same time work the adajcent agencies on the other boxes . Of course at the moment in that neck of the woods it's getting even more important to listen on 121.5...on that hard to find fourth radio....
