Sqn Ldr Tony Gaze DFC** OAM
Australian Sqn Ldr Tony Gaze DFC** RAF passed away yesterday aged 93. Tony had a great combat history and flew Spitfires with the Tangmere Wing. He shot down some 12.5 e/a including Me262 and Arado 234 on Spit XIV with 41 Sqn. Moved on to Meteors for the last bit of the war. His jet conversion was a quick flight in the morning and an armed recce flight that afternoon...
He represented Australia in the 1960 World Gliding Championships too..
Post war was Australia's first Grand Prix driver...He was awarded the Order of Australia [OAM] for services to motor racing.

Interesting photo. I see he has "only" one bar to his DFC at the time it was taken. The DFC ribbon was a relatively common sight on post WW2 uniforms, but one with two rosettes must have drawn some comments!
