Sponsored Reservist Pilots

I'm interested to hear how the sponsored reservist scheme is viewed from inside the service. On the face of it there are some significant negatives in that it seems to combine the "downside" and restrictions of being under military discipline without the esprit de corps, propspects and comradeship of a service career. How is the scheme viewed?

Why is it any different from TA, Aux, or any other type of reserve service?

PS, what "prospects" and "esprit de corps? Are you referring to?
