Drone almost collides with passenger jet.

Hi,

With increased use of drones around the world, is it inevitable that sooner or later one will collide with a passenger jet ??

And in more breaking news from 2004, it is now just one year until the IOC will announce who has won the right to stage the 2012 Olympics.....

Looks more like the passenger jet nearly collided with the drone.

Possibly, but we've gone nine years since that Kabul A300/Luna near-miss was first posted without a major accident.

Any statistician will tell you that as the number of drones increases the chance of a collision increases.

It seems that the Germans have identified that the problem of keeping drones away from manned aircraft isn't likely to be solved soon...

In mid-May 2013, the German Ministry of Defence announced it would be withdrawing completely from the Euro Hawk drone programme. The reasons given for this decision included great difficulties and enormous additional costs of over €500M linked to the procedure of admitting the drone for use in German general airspace outside specifically segregated airspace, which would be necessary if this kind of drone were to be used in congested European airspace. According to information from the German MoD, the reason for abandoning interest in the drone programme include reluctance of the US parent company to provide technical documentation. Press reports also indicate that there were technical problems with the prototype drone maintaining contact with its ground control station and the lack of an automatic anti-collision system.
