Ahhhhhh - Merlins!!

Up in Town today at a meeting in the City. We all stopped talking as the music of Merlins became apparent. What was it - the Zurich Insurance pig-vic? (Brilliant spoof commercial that!) - no, 'twas the BBMF Lanc en-route to St Paul's. Then it even made that 'wow-wow-wow' noise you hear in the Dambusters when they're turning with a higher power setting before going past again. MAGIC!!

Wonder how many Purple Pen Pushers at the Box even noticed......

Passed over our Mayfair office as well. During a meeting about marketing strategy. Talk about extremes.

Smile

I saw it yesterday over the City too, doing 2 orbits. What a pleasant surprise! Any PPruners with influence care to ask the BBMF to do all their continuation training over the City ?

Nearing top of London Eye with daughter on sightseeing trip, when Lancaster flew into view.....speechless tourists slowly ascending. Magic moment.

Met several old chaps in train chaos later (one veteran trapped in closing doors as attendant tried to get train moving).

Beags,

Just for one moment, one glorious moment, I thought I had found someone who liked the three engined, barrel-in-a-net lifting, 22 seater, 1 kilometer ranged, severe icing cleared, Wessex replacement. But no, you were refering to an engine, used in a time when we procured aircraft that could do the job.

I guess I'll just have to keep looking, someone out there mustr love it!

Thumbs up

Waiting at Thameslink stn on day of Queen Mum's funeral - distant drone to stir the sinews; 3 ship flypast by BBMF brought the place to stop. Much craning of necks to see, even by the youngsters.

Disband the Dead Sparrows and create MMM (Many More Merlins) Flt!

Argh Merlins

If you check out:

http://www.artistic.flyer.co.uk/

..and wait the few seconds that it takes the page to download fully, then you are rewarded with the sound of merlins. Not sad enough to be able to say what they are on, but suspect more than one suggesting 2 or 4 engined bomber type.

CL - rotten bug.ger! The only Merlin I've ever had my hands on was a Davis-Charlton 0.75 cc diesel engine! Nothing like the power of the Cox TD 049 either.....

Wink

Slight diversion chaps, but having flown grandson of the Lanc I can honestly say the best sound in the world was the sound of 4 Griffons getting airbourne. Because it meant you weren't on board.

Four Griffs eh, Dunhovrin? Didja hear about the Shack pilot who got back to base with all four still running?

Had to shut one down 'cos he didn't know how to do a four engine landing.

Blacksheep: Good call me old and sadly true. One of my door stops at home is the remains of a conrod from an overspeed abeam the Orkneys. I think it took us an extra day to get home. (Of course we were so slow it used to take us 6 minutes to do a four minute hold. Tadum-chhhh Ithankyou ).

So you guys will have wtached that classic, The Malta Story [Sat afternoon, Beeb 2 - all the old stars inc Alec Guiness, Jack Hawkins etc] with lodsa good newsreel material, including the clipeed wing spit, the mark 20 something.

*sigh*

The only jet to do that I reckon was the Avon, at full chat from straight on - and I guess the Olympus/Conway. Hence a -10 can be an awsome sound.
