Build-A-Spit

Well done Mr Arlow

OK she's not a flyer but I'm sure we all appreciate his dedication, commitment and determination.

Terry Arlow's Spitfire

I know it's the Daily Mail ... but the pics are good.

Some pics show the wings as clipped, others fully elliptical

Also, some shots identify the elevator as being the wing.

But it is the Daily Mail, after all!

Newt ...

Quite agree ! Along with Nissen Hut, Deck Chairs and 5 gallons of PIMM's ... you'll be all set for the perfect summer in the garden

Two sets of wings? There are numerous differences as you look through the photos.

Wings explained at the Spit's own web site:

Simply Spitfire presents: Unique hand-built spitfire for hire!

NB that the Mail may be almost 3 years late with the story, since the replica first saw the light of day in 2010 according to other sources.

It's a shame about the spelling in the website. Probably too busy to proof read it. Isle of White indeed! Wonder where your SatNav takes you if you type that in.

Chap in Cornwall has also built a replica Spit which lives in his garden. A second one he built was used in the filming of Geoffrey Wellum's "First Light". One of them was on display in Truro in 2005 for the 60th anniversary of the end of WW2, and it had a lot of onlookers fooled.
