Nah, to avoid any confusion Dave W was, for a while, "one of mine" during his time on the Jet Provost at Cranditz, e.g on 28th April 1986 my logbook reveals that a certain Plt Off. D. Waddington was taught Glide circuits....I guess at some point I omitted the lesson that covered how not be shot down.....and if you're reading this Dave.. I'm sorry, I'm really really sorry

Fortunately he was sensible enough not to follow my lead when it came to the likes of O.Q.s and how to get on in the RAF.

Q: Why does Marham need a 1* "Tornado Force Commander"? When there were Tornado Sqns at Bruggen, Honington, Lossiemouth and Marham the force didn't need a separate commander, the staishes and appropriate chains of command seemed to cope just fine.

So what has changed? Jobs for the boys?

It's a rebranding exercise for the 2 aircrew Air Commodores that have always existed in 1 Gp. Instead of being Air Commodore Force Elements / Air Commodore Ops (insert annually-changing w@nky-staff title here), they are now the Tornado and Typhoon Force Commanders. I actually think it is a step forward - a bit clearer who is reponsible for what and to whom.
