Any former Vulcan Tail Gunners on here? If so did you ever regret having your vasectomy?

OK - in today's Times there's an article on vasectomies. A Professor of Family Planning, John Guillebaud, explains how he tried to popularise the procedure

“It started to take off because of men in uniform. We found if you vasectomised men such as policemen, first, they were more likely to take to it for some reason and then, once they did, they talked to their mates and you got a whole police station doing it. We vasectomised a whole Vulcan bomber [crew] at RAF Brize Norton, from the captain to the tail gunner. All nine of them talked among themselves. They were all of the same age group with families and they enthused each other."
Always wondered what that bulge at the tail of a Vulcan was, but it must have been a tight squeeze in there! I presume the other three blokes were stuffed in the bomb-bay somewhere. Oh and now I know why Brize is often referred to as a 'secret Oxfordshire base' You have to admit they did a good job keeping those big noisy Vulcans under wraps all those years

We used to creep up on the triangle with the radar on in the Lightning and try to sterilise the rear gunner.

Thinks - isn't 'rear gunner' slang for......................oohhh!

It's just that we called it the 'Dural Rivet'.

I wonder - just raising the possibility - could it have been a B-52C?

A year ago I wrote of my life as a Vulcan Rear Gunner here, but nobody believed me back then. Probably where the writer got the idea.

.............and of course, when not manning the gun he could count the fag packets............................ouch!

Back in the old days it was always re-assuring when I closed on a triangle for a vis-ident to see the guns parked and not tracking..
