Very sad news and best wishes to the pilot.

However, seeing as DH53 is a through-and-through civvy aircraft, Mods please move this to the historics section?

8 were operated by the RAF during the 1920s including 2 that were launched from the R33 airship

I cannot believe this awful news. One of the nicest guys I ever met and quite possibly the finest pilot I ever flew with. A hugely talented RAF flying instructor and test pilot and his passing will be an enormous loss to the world of vintage aviation.

I remember a TSU Nav describing a sortie with him on a RAFG TACEVAL in the late 80s as the most tactically aware pilot he had ever flown with. Never flew the track for more than a few seconds, never came out of the valleys and hit every target to the second.

Condolences to his family, the team at Shuttleworth and his many friends..

With a little thought you might realise a lot of folk on here know a lot of folk on the display circuits, many of whom are ex military colleagues. Sadly having seen Post 5 perhaps you can now see you were a little hasty about moving the thread.

Glad I only put it up because I assumed the family had been informed... So sad.
