Well, there are 2 more RAF serial numbers in the block allocated for C-17... if those are filled, then there will be as many C-17s in the RAF as there were Belfasts.

Oddly enough, the US Military have just retired their first one of the type to a museum.

the only way the RAF ever got any in the first place was because someone in MoD figured out that by "renting" them they'd be off balance sheet
once they proved their worth they were allowed to buy outright
