Assuming that nothing has changed lately, the E-3Ds are the UK Component of the NATO AEW Force run by the NATO AEW Force Command at SHAPE. Routine day to day tasking is by NATO, with the option for the UK to remove aircraft from NATO Tasking if important national tasking takes priority. (Putting this simply - it can be a little more complicated than that). If the E-3D cannot fulfil its NATO exercise tasking then a NATO E-3A can be tasked in its stead (as, in the past, E-3Ds have replaced E-3As when they have grounded). Hence no operational effect as I assume that no priority National tasking is taking place or being planned at the moment.

I do wish people would know all the facts before they start passing their ill informed opinions......

Operational "Effect" and "Capability" - two different things? One is when used, the other whether it is used or not; or is that too simple?

Do we still have platform "Capability Working Groups"? First item on next agenda. Losing Sentry has no effect on OC. Meeting closed, permanently.

If we can cope without it, do we need to retain it...

Are they just joyriding and claiming the rations?
I can neither confirm nor deny that hideous allegation.

No Frisbees seen recently

Well sitting here under the Waddo MATZ there's not been any "Frizbees" seen in the skies around here recently at all. Saw a Sentinal yesterday afternoon and have seen a few King Airs but no AWACS!

Is there any truth in the rumour that some suits were seen in and around the Red DC3 with the bulge under it, at Coventry the other day?

Is the real reason that Mr Cameron wants those Griffon Spits back from Burma so that they can be used as interceptors in conjuction with the Dak? They could be quickly upgraded with Link One and opeated by BBMF personnel out of Northolt just like they were 72 years ago, you could even put the Ground Crews in tents on the airfield.

Jackanicko I think you should look into this one.

I can neither confirm nor deny that hideous allegation.
Is that only because it was a question, not an allegation...?

I'd assumed that was a lead-in question.

Is it not supposed to be involved in the Ellamy Flypast?...
Risky business if it doesn't take part I'd suggest
