Cheers Bluengreen.

I did mean any external fuel when I said 'additional' but wasn't sure if there was such a capacity at present; is there? Thanks for the figures.

Another heli? Seaking. RAF SAR variant. 6000lbs internal fuel, 1000lb/hr at 115 kts. 600NM easy peasy. Radar equipped so IMC transit at 100' overwater no problem. Room for 20+ casualties (As proven may times - although not with a lot of fuel!). Hard acft to replace, for sure (and Merlin ain't it).

PS. I think the comments about the NH90 being 'new' and needing to be given a chance are spot on. It will be a hell of a lot better than a lot of current airframes when it is sorted, and it will be.

Kiwis are very good at what they do, and a superb bunch of chaps - I suspect some lateral recruitment of experienced QHI's/QHCI's will sort them out good and proper.

The RNZAF is one of 16 operators taking delivery some 500 NH90 and is of course a party to shared solutions to any technical issues that may arise...that's always been the way! As for the snow...many of the countries operating the type will see a lot more snow than we do in NZ! I've also heard [in NZ] "that the NH90 cannot be deployed overseas because it won't fit in a Herc" when Blind Freddy himself will tell you that fitting into a Herc was never one of the criteria !

All the NH-90 stuff is all good and well, but would someone please tell me NZ aren't seriously considering buying the lemons that are/were the Australian Seasprites.
Is there a dodgy chap down there in a sheepskin jacket running an Honest John's 2nd hand helicopter lot...

The Awesome Sea King

Irreplaceable ! Having flown both Sea King and NH90, whilst the SK will always have a place in my heart, I would rather go and do the business in a NH90.

You wait until all that carbon fibre starts delaminating after a few years shaking....and how does battle damage repair work with the NH90 - can't see sheet metal an rivets doing the job.

can't see the NZAF ever incurring serious "battle damage" TBH

the NH-90's will spend all their time on humanitarian relief work/police deployment in small S Pacific island nations
