Join the RAF Regt - always on hand to take on Johnnie Foreigner in a "Battle Bowler" with Shirt and Tie...

Willard, I think I found the follow on poster for the Britannia crew - what place do you think it might be then?
PS before everyone starts, I know its a Vickers Funbus and not a Britannia...

Very sad to see this. I seem to remember a sign in the Officers Mess at RAF Lyneham in 1969 saying "Fly Ascot, the largest fleet in Europe." It was true at the time. Also, Air Support Command (remember them) had the best safety record. The old firm deserves better.

213 Sqdn.
Re Beag's order of battle, as an ex 213 Sqdn rigger, I always thought that "we" were the sole operators of B(I)6 Canberras, and had them from new until retirement.
Could I be mistaken...?

You're quite right, Rigex, I seem to have transposed the details for 213 Sqn and 256 Sqn at Ahlhorn. Thanks for spotting my error - original post now amended!
213 Sqn are indeed listed as the only Canberra B(I)6 squadron; 256 Sqn are listed as having operated the Meteor NF11.
Incidentally, I see that the £1200 per annum I was paid as an APO whilst at University in 1972 would have equated to £21000 in 2010 based on average earnings. Whereas RAF Bursars receive only £3000 per annum today....
Although the MGB which cost about £1250 back then would only have costed £12000 in 2010, based on RPI......
House prices have increased in a grossly disproportionate manner over the last 40 years, car prices even more so.

I am not convinced that cars have increased over and above inflation. Using a Google provided calculator I find that a BMC Mini which cost £365 tax free in Cyprus would now be £6625. I know that today's Mini is a very different and better equipped car but they start at at £11100+

Thanks Beags for the gracious reply...to add to your reminiscences, I recall being paid ( as an SAC rigger) 205 DM every-other fortnight and 200 on the "in-between" ones....and the exchange rate was DM11,22 to the pound in '65 deterioratng to DM 8,35 at the end of '68 - still managed to run a 500cc BSA and obtain adequate refreshments...days gone by!
Incidentally (back almost to thread) I also remember 213 winning anything we entered (Salmond Trophy etc)
