I would have thought a personal trophy for Andy or an annual Squadron award for someone who lost a piece of equipment when they didn't have to

The BN "ditched and bounced" story as told to me was just about the same as Dundiggin's version. The crewman who almost jumped out at 1500 ft was G.R.
I think Andy L. must have taken a liking to flying without engines - he later went gliding, if I'm not mistaken.

I don't think it was Andy who went gliding, if you're referring to an incident on a UAS. I flew him in a Chinny out of Glasgow recently and he pointed out a field near Loch Lomond where one of his UAS pilots safely PFL'd into 15 odd years ago.

Chinook240, nothing to do with that incident. I meant gliding in gliders, without engines .

Nutloose.....
What a small World! I may be biased but I do think my version is closer to the truth and is probably a little more exciting to read. We flew up to wherever it was and picked up the door and I believe it was eventually returned to Andy but I may be wrong.
Didn't they replace that door with a landrover door for a short time until they found the Argie Chinook and then purloined one from that.
For those that don't know the job was at night and on goggles.
Nice models Nutloose......
