Unusual for a skidded aircraft.

Hmmm... PoF

Has anyone seen any video of the landing? (my guess, a heavy one or just mis-controlled).

A clip showing 10 seconds earlier might give some clues to how it started.

MG - not unusual for a skidded eurocopter.

The 350/355 and Alouette II/Lama all have established histories of ground resonance given the right provocation. I've also seen a Gazelle do it.

Shame this event was not caught in time.

OH

Already being discussed on this thread in Rotorheads

All the pilot had to do was pull some collective and lift clear of the ground, or kill the donk and apply the rotor brake. Instead he seems to have done nothing and so risked lives including his own and trashed a perfectly good helicopter.

Anyone who went through pilot training in the late '60s / early '70s would undoubtedly have seen the ancient training film 'Helicopter Mountain Flying' - there was a very graphic clip of an S-51 getting caught in ground resonance before thrashing itself to bits.....

...a perfectly good helicopter...
is surely an oxymoron ?

You wouldn't say that if you were floating on the briny with a long row home as the only alternative

I've always said that any aircraft that needs a run up to get off the ground really wasn't meant to fly in the first place... It's unnatural...

Could you imagine explaining that one to the line controller? It would make for an interesting SNOW. Do you think the next Captain would Aircrew Accept it?

Saw a picture of an RN Wessex which decided to reduce itself to parts. Must be a scary experience.

That rear view reminds me of a lady I once saw at a disco.
