Cat 5
Sorry, pls excuse being a non mil type, I can't help but notice several mentions of a 'Cat 5', I've gathered it's not good, but what exactly is it??
Tks
Tks
The Aircrew Dictionary can often help in these cases
The Aircrew Dictionary - Foreword
I notice Cat 5 seems to be missing as an entry on it's own but is covered under "Black" I'm sure it was there in the original printed version that went round the crewroom...

Damage Cats
It,s a long time since I left but I did spend time as a maintenace test pilot
As I recall the damge cats were, in plain language; repairable
1 on the line ie a burst tyre
2 on the squadron ie an engine change
3 on station by a contractors ie engine fire with airframe damage
4 not worth repairing but some bits might be worth keeping
5 collect the bits, remove human remains, dispose of the rest
