Secret Santa

As we approach the festive season, does anyone have any good suggestions for Secret Santa goodies? I've been tasked to buy for a FJ colleague who's about to head into the airline industry, so I've come up with the relatively benign ideas like a book of crossword solutions for the longer sectors, a set of silver rank slides (or a bulk pack of Durex for the night-stops!), but I wondered if anyone had seen any better offerings?

Thumbs up

Get him a Sqn coffee cup so he can use it as an ice breaker to bore the pants off his future airline colleagues about his fast jet career

How about

What have you been smoking, Nutloose? How can riveting yarns of fast jet derring do ever be boring? What were you thinking?

As for presents, appearance is obviously everything in his new career. So how about a personal grooming kit, one of those horrible wipe on shoe shine kits or a nose and ear hair trimmer?

Alng the line of what Mach 2 said about presentation and appearance,
how about a lint remover ?

I always found them useful before formal parades or Mess DIN's where
any piece of lint or fluff stood out against the dark blue.

Mach 2

Re "one of those horrible wipe on shoe shine kits", surely he must know how to clean shoes well enough that all you need is a stocking to bring them back to perfection ?

Or has "spit and polish" gone from the UK forces as well ?

Not sure how you guys were taught to spit polish but the way I was taught - by an Ex RSM where if you weren't up to his standard it wasn't good enough - spit polish multiple layers of polish onto the shoe until you get that lovely deep mirror finish shine.

Now once you have this, if you get a LIGHT scuff on them, a piece of nylon stocking wiped or buffed over will take it back to it's former glory. I think it has to go with the fine nylon and very close weave but I can assure you it worked for me for years.

I'm sure others have other ways that work but that's what I used.

Hope that helps.

500N. That'll teach me to try to be a smart arse around here!!! Anyway, yep, I was taught exactly the same, except the bit about the stocking.

Pilot Shop, Pilot Supplies, Pilot Gps, Pilot Equipment, Pilot Gear - FlightStore.co.uk - I notice thay sell engine oil in bulk; I didn't realise that airline pilots have to buy their own.

Clearly it's not that much use as embedding has been disabled, but you can view it on youtube.

They have one to suit, see
