Lakota ancestry: Army Aviation Systems Command BK117A-1

Came across this in Paul Beaver's Attack Helicopters published in 1987 by Arms & Armour



It was used by Army Aviation Systems Command for air to air trials back in 1986 at the then NATC (now NAWCAD) Pax River.

While the original BK looks a bit like the Lakota (BK117-C2) on the outside - its not very similar at all on the inside or in construction.

Had ECD pushed harded for newer FADEC engines on the C2 it would not have been allowed on the original Type Certificate.
