RAF Aircraft Recognition Help (1943)
Dear all ...
Spot of help please ...
Whilst sorting a few papers for my 88 year old mother over the weekend, I came across a picture taken in 1943 of her. The background is intriguing ... whilst probably a photo backdrop ... I've been scratching my head as to what the aircraft might be (Mother can't remember either). The best I can come up with is something from the Miles "stable" (possibly a Hawk ?) but the undercarriage strut seems to have an exaggerated forward "rake" with minimal strut fairing and no wheel spat configuration as seems common place on most reference photos I've seen so far ...
Mother spent most of WWII up at RAF Leuchars alongside 206 Squadron (Liberators) ... I doubt the backdrop is connected to Leuchars.
Any recognition help will be greatly appreciated ...
Kind regards ...
Coff.

The Brewster Buffalo was operated in Fighter Command by No 71 Sqn in 1940 but rejected as a first line fighter for European Ops and sent to the Far East equipping 60,67,243,453 and 488 Sqns RAF and 21 Sqn RAAF
