I don't speak or read French, so I had to rely on Google Translate for this version:

A helicopter in a field Perigord
AFP Published on 07/09/2011 at 19:45 React
A Chinook heavy lift helicopter for the Royal Air Force (RAF) has asked emergency today in a field of Dordogne, after a smoke in the cockpit, it was learned from the police, and driver, slightly intoxicated, had to be hospitalized.

The helicopter, which had five people aboard, had just left the military part of the Bordeaux-Merignac airport into central London, and flew over the Dordogne, where occurred a smoke, probably from the rotor before , which has invaded the cabin.

The pilot had time to run multiple times over the town of Musselburgh before you choose a field that acts as camping and empty right now, to land without much damage other than "some branches torn off, and damage to the pergola and the neighbor's roof, "according to police.

The driver was transported to the hospital emergency de Bergerac, the other military bien.Un with other RAF Chinook had to happen at midnight with hardware troubleshooting and both devices should be left tomorrow morning, Constable concluded .
I couldn't help but laugh at the "it was learned from the police, and driver, slightly intoxicated, had to be hospitalized."

Well done to the crew for putting it down in the gastronomic centre of France - I hope they found a nice restaurant tonight. Shame about the pilot who inhaled though. He should have stuck to the OASC standard line.

The article continues "L'équipage arrière rencontré de jeunes femmes attrayantes pour le sexe, mais les pilotes ont eu à se masturber sur leurs propres."

Let's face it, you've got to be slightly intoxicated before you's consider flying in a Chinook.

P.S. Glad they're down safe, hope no permanent pergola or other damage was done to anyone or anything.

Yes, I remember it well. The rule on Pumas was "No smoking if the aircraft cockpit didn't have an ashtray". The ashtrays were flip top devices, like the steel ones on buses and were removable for emptying.

Some of us who hated the smoking habit in the cockpit did our best to litter the Belizean jungle floor with "accidentally jettisoned through the window" ashtrays. We eventually ran the local RAF stores clean out of them.

The last time I had to deal with smoke in cockpit and hospitalised aircrew, the RAF (AMSO) response was to refuse funding to investigate and correct, with "The RN can ground their (Lynx) fleet and come back next year and ask again".

Somehow I think the response will be different this time.

Glad they are ok.
