Hi Guys , Girls

Some of the Engineering team are repainting our old girl XL426 however
we have hit a stumbling block and need some help we are trying to find the following as we would like to paint one side 50 sqn and the other 617 sqn 617 we have and 50 sqn were struggling on , also we are in need of some of the original stenciling .

1, 50 Sqn tail fin bages (ie) the 2 red dingos/greyhounds either original
scale fin badge or close up pictures or scale drawings of the 50 sqn
dingos / greyhounds .

2, We are also in need of the original stenciling markings on the airframe
so once repainted we can put the original stencilings back on the plane

If you are able to help please pm me or let me know in the room , . Hope to hear some news soon you can see how were getting on by looking at our website see link below .

Have you tried the 50/61 Sqn Association? The Chairman was a Wg Cdr Pete "PJ" Jacobs but I don't know if he still is.

Anyway, have a look at the newsletter at the link below with lots of info on Page 6 and 7 on the Dingos and why they look like Greyhounds.

All the best for your project.

Ther original artist was Flt Lt (later Sqn Ldr) Mike Setterfield. I last saw him when he was in Contingency Plans at HQ STC in about 2001.

I, for one, have always been curious as to why an Anti-flash white paint scheme had never been adopted for the Vulcan. I would have thought that the colours (colour) of an era when not only one aircraft, but many aircraft, were built (in Great Britain) for one single mission, would be more fitting for such an iconic aircraft. I hope this isn't taking the thread too far off topic, but I doubt there is a more appropriate time to ask the question: What was the reasoning behind the current camouflage?

Good question well phrased the reason why alot of vulcans in musems and ground running airframes are not painted in anti-flash white is because the anti-flash white is very hard to keep clean and therefore we at xl426 think its easier to have her in the wrap around camo and less upkeep also because the airframe collect water on certern surfaces it stops the paint work going green hope this helps .
