Possible MOD Redundancy Arrangements

The MOD has decided to introduce a new system for managing redundancy programmes so that the relationship between recruitment, promotion, and severance is more closely integrated. To do this, a new statutory body has been formed: The Promotion & Redundancy Assessment Tribunal (PRATS).

With regards the redundancy element of their responsibilities, MOD will no longer call for volunteers for redundancy. Instead and in order to make the process more inclusive and democratic, personnel will be made redundant on the basis of election by their peers.

Desk officers will compile a list of people eligible for redundancy and this will be produced in the form of a ballot paper (electronic voting and postal ballots for those serving in Afghanistan is being arranged, subject to cost savings being identified elsewhere). The list of eligible personnel will be called: Candidates Requiring Early Termination In Normal Service (CRETINS).

The form of election used will the Multi-Transferable Vote and training and briefing in this process will be given by the Lib Dems at public expense.

All personnel will receive a ballot paper for those in their rank and trade or branch and a paper for those one rank above. They may select and rate in order of preference ten candidates from each list. Basic rules which will apply include:
a. No voting for oneself.
b. No copying the ballot paper to increase one’s prospects or to affect adversely another candidate.
c. Soliciting others to vote for one is not permitted.
d. Any candidate who receives no votes from their peers will be subject to a police investigation.
e. Adding names to the ballot paper is not allowed.
f. Fighter pilots may ask for assistance in completing the ballot paper.

On conclusion of the process, those selected for redundancy will be titled: Forces Unable to be Consolidated in the Kernel Organisation For the Future (FKOFF).

In summary the process is that periodically a group of PRATS will nominate CRETINS who will be made to FKOFF.

OD - I'm told that those who have been selected can still appeal. They have to appeal to the Tribunal for Officers Still Serving Out Redundancy Secretariat

So:

In summary the process is that periodically a group of PRATS will nominate CRETINS who will be made to FKOFF but can appeal to TOSSERS.
