Just how does some of this stuff get nicked??

Having said that I don’t know why I surprised. I used to be the proud owner of a Sqn miscellaneous inventory which consisted of everything from dustbins to state of the art SX386 computers and 9pin dot matrix printers. Some people will nick anything as I found out

The most valuable single item to be stolen was a helicopter rotor tuner worth £50,000, which was taken in November.

I wonder how much was actually stolen as opposed to 'unaccountable for' or in other words moved from A to B to C legitimately but the paper work never caught up.

I remember a hoohaa about a fair quanity of titanium going missing a few years back when the civvy contractors who took over responsibility for the scrap compound at 'an RAF airfield' just threw the keys to the guy who had turned up to collect ferous scrap rather than do as the previously responsible servicemen had always done, escort the scrappy to the yard.
The scrappy, when contacted during the investigation, apparently didn't know anything about the titanium and nothing could be proved.

Rumour had it that the Atlantic Conveyor was not sunk by enemy action in 1982 - it actually sank because of the weight of equipment allegedly on board as sworn to by multitudes of inventory holders.

That and the realisation by some on the ship who had put the bar to good use, that their cheques cashed heading South were in the safe, and the safe was now at the bottom of the Atlantic.

The Iraqis were always accomplished at this type of thing. I remember in Basrah in 2007 some 'insurgents' broke into camp and nicked the gennie running the Watchman, and also a couple of guys half inched a 55 seater coach and just drove it out of the main gate!

Not to mention the time we were engines running and the fekkers tried to nick the fire truck from the fire bay not 100 yards from us. No wonder what they could have done with such a powerful vehicle, doesnt bear thinking about really.
Goods worth 700k out of an inventory of squillions - not bad going. 635 MPs managed to embezzle that out of our pockets every year!!!

but the article states that "Guns, a bridge and Army ration packs also went missing. In total, goods worth nearly £700,000 were taken in the UK."

They just needed to combine the two statements.
Ms Berger, MP for Liverpool Wavertree, asked for a breakdown of items worth £100 or more which had been stolen from the MoD since the government took office.

XD 183, a Whirlwind 10, crashed in Malaysia during the Besatu Padu exercise in 1970. It was the only Rolls Royce Griffon powered helicopter in the RAF. It must have been, because two of them appeared on its inventory.
