Arc Royal... French boat?
will get my coat....
But saying that, one thought we shared our boats these days with the French.
Along with her escort,
HMS Spellchecker....
HMS Spellchecker....
HMS Exeter, HMS Southampton and HMS Nottingham
Again, sadly

Mmm. . . gives a displacement of 19,000 tonnes and an estimated metal weight of 10,000 tonnes - what's the rest of it made of?
Also on that site, Lightning T5, no engines, full history - presumably one careful owner!

topgas,
You should ask one of our naval experts, like mm43 or broadreach, but part of the answer might be:
non-metal structure/fittings (!) + fuel + stores + ammunition + crew + Harriers + helicopters (etc).
Think "Displacement" means the max amount of water the ship can displace, which equates to the maximum all-up weight (equivalent to an aircraft's maximum taxi weight).
Arc Royal? Dommage!

BBC News - Carrier HMS Ark Royal put up for auction on MoD website
Must of heard all the kerfuffle on here about the spelling of Arc...Ark, as they appear to have heeded the spelling polices warnings....
Mon dieu!-

I hope someone will remove the golden rivet before she is sold. If you need a clue it used to be in 3T13, but it is only accessible when the 10p piece/cabin-door interface lock is on! Also I would like the Captain's chair from the bridge for old times sake

I wouldnt mind owning the painting of the previous Ark Royal that hung in the Admirals reception area. Depicted entering Valetta (Malta) harbour IIRC and with real aircraft on the decks.

Can't help with the painting but here is a photo of Ark Royal leaving Malta in November 1978 with rather a lot of real aircraft on deck.
