Colour Code Map (for civvies)

Does anyone know if there is a live weather colour code map available on internet? (as per what you get on MIST etc) Have any civvies grasped the idea?

I think he meant a colour state map showing the current weather at airfelds indicated by a small coloured block using a decode similar to this.

No, I don't think there's one of the UK available on the internet that isn't restricted access (the new MOMIDS site is internet-based but limited access).

Has anyone else found one?

Charley - that's it, thanks - although I'm a bit concerned it shows 1002Z when it's actually 1115Z, but close enough.

You're never happy, Dallas, are you?

Sorry, that was my mistake -- I linked you to the map rather than the setup page; this page will serve you better.

The page does not automatically update; each result is static, as the time and date are part of the URL.

Now that is strange. It gives METARS and TAFS for Woodvale. Where do they come from? Woodvale doesn't have any met observers or equipment. They even phone us for cloudbase readings.

I can't answer your question specifically, only generally with 'possibly the same source as the NOAA in the U.S'.

Perhaps some coalition/MoD ploy to deceive the world into thinking our military capability is greater than it is?

The Woodvale Metar is automatic...there is a machine just outside of the tower building that does it.

The TAF for Woodvale is provided by the guys at John Lennon airport.

The colours dont show correctly on this map but the hot links give actuals and TAFs for each airfield on the map. Click on the airfield and it takes you to the latest info

Weather : Newcastle upon Tyne England

Weather : Waddington RAF England

Which guys? There haven't been any Met Forecasters at LJLA since about the mid/late 1970s. Mind you, some of the Met Observer qualified ATCAs are a bit handy with seaweed!

If its been sold on by Scousers then its probably been nicked from a more affluent airport. That's why Liverpool FC haven't won anything for a while - it must be hard for Roy Hodgson to make decisions when all he is thinking is "I hope the Scallies haven't had the wheels off my Jag again".

Think they come from Manchester. Probably why they're not that accurate.
